Dr. Andrew Miki Discusses Teacher Mental Health Trends with a Canadian Education Union
Dr. Andrew Miki, Founder at Clinical Psychologist at Starling Minds, has worked with hundreds of educators in the past 10 years. “Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental health struggles that teachers experience given the growing pressures they face at work,” Dr. Miki explains. “Much of the work I do with teachers in my private practice requires homework on their part. About 5 years ago, I realized that everything I teach in session can be self-taught and that teachers, in particular, have an immense capacity to learn and utilize cognitive-behavioral strategies that keep themselves mentally healthy.”
At Starling Minds, we believe that healthy teachers equal healthy classrooms which equal healthy student outcomes. When teachers are mentally well, everyone wins.
Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers first launched Starling Minds in October 2016 to union members and their families. 75% of QPAT members who use Starling’s online cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) programs report a reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms.
